Stand Down of Volunteer Activities on 24/09/2011

Heartwarmers will stand down for this Saturday 24/9/11 as there will be a church group visiting Christalite Methodist Home.
We will resume our activity on the 1/10/11.

Before I forget, I would like to express my thanks to Mr Wong for organising the Mid Autumn Celebration last Saturday.
And to all other volunteers who have turned up, thanks. I had originally thought that the turnup for the celebration might not be good, but was glad you all had came down to support in one way or another, making the event a successful one.

A well deserved break for all of you. =)

For this coming Saturday, 3/9/11, the breakfast serving will still continue as per normal.

We will also be participating in ESN Carnival, held at Yishun JC in the afternoon.

Event: ESN Carnival
Time: 1pm @ CMH

A total of 15 residents will join in the carnival as well, which starts at approximately 2pm. More details of the carnival in the attached powerpoint document.

Each resident will be given 15 ice-cream sticks (worth a dollar each) to spend in the carnival and they will have a lucky draw coupon as well.

We will need a minimum of 15 volunteers to assist with this event to take care of the beneficiaries at the carnival. Your duty will be to assist the resident with the ice-cream sticks as well as the lucky draw coupon.

Would appreciate it if you could confirm your attendance with Wenqing by Friday [you can either sms Wenqing (96584168) or email him]. Thanks =)

Volunteer Outing

We will be having our FIRST HEARTWARMERS volunteer outing after our service at CMH on 25 June 2011 at Pasir Ris Park for a relaxing BBQ and some fun activities. I sincerely urge all Heartwarmers volunteers to mark this important date on your calendar especially for those students volunteer.

The main objective of this outing is to thanks all of your hard work, efforts, time and contributions to Heartwarmers and also the residents. Hence this outing will be the time for all of us to interact with each other and relax after all these years of volunteering under Heartwarmers!

There will be an additional service at SWAMI home after services at CMH. SWAMI home is a nursing home located at Sembawang, just right opposite Sembawang Shopping Centre. We have already engaged a caterer to provide teabreak for the residents. We will be serving these food and deliver them to all 3 levels of residents. This will be a great chance to have a go at communicating with the residents in the home and get to see the difference between the desitute home and a nursing home.

Christalite Heartwarmers will be organizing an outing to the Botanical Gardens on 11th June 2011 to celebrate Dumpling Festival with the beneficiaries.

(2) 3rd & 4th September (Goodies bag packing)

Main Objective:
To assist with the packing of Goodies Bag for the less fortunate family which includes the visually handicapped, MINDS, hospice, many low income family and others.

Activity Highlight:
The activity is split into 2 parts:
1) Packing: There will be about 120 volunteers who will be assisting the packing of the goodies bag during daytime on Friday (3rd Sept). Extra help may be needed if the packing could not be finish during the day.
2) Loading: The goodies bag will have to be loaded onto vehicles on Saturday morning for distribution.

Location:
Henderson Community Club

Our (Heatwarmers) Involvement:
The target is to complete the whole packing during the day.
If however the packing could not be completed by then, we may need volunteers to help out with the packing after work.

Main Objective:
To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节）with the residents of CMH.

We will be bringing 20-25 residents to the Woodlands Waterfront.

(1) 11th September (Elderly Sector Network Carnival)

Elderly Sector Network (ESN) will be organizing an annual ESN carnival:

Main Objective:
To infuse a sense of togetherness as a community of volunteers serving the elderly sector and to provide an afternoon of beyond volunteering experience of fun, cheer and company to the elderly by the combined efforts of volunteers.

Background of Elderly Sector Network:
The objective of the Elderly Sector Network is to synergise, streamline and consolidate training/event-organising efforts between volunteer agencies of the same interest group. Focusing on the elderly sector, we hope to promote networking among the volunteer agencies to share and exchange ideas, resources and information. We hope to promote networking not only within the elderly sector but also to other sectors, through our inter-sector networking efforts. Event Highlights:
Games and food stalls will be set up by volunteers from different home.
There will also be a mini-concert, as well as lucky draws for beneficiaries.

Location:
Yishun JC (However please take note that volunteers attached to the beneficiaries would be required to report to CMH)

Time:
2pm to 4.30pm

Our (Heartwarmers) involvement:
We will be setting up:
1) Food stall (Selling Tau Suan) - Requiring 4 students + 1 regular CMH volunteer to mann
2) Game stall (Pending Confirmation) - Requiring 4 students + 1 regular CMH volunteer to mann
3) 15 beneficiaries from CMH will be joining in the carnival - Requiring 20 to 25 volunteers
(For student volunteer, we will either pair you up with an adult of if we have insufficient manpower, we will have 2 students to be attached to a beneficiary)

What we hope to achieve:
We hope that through this event,
- It will encourage more interactions between our volunteers and the beneficiaries from CMH as well as with volunteers from the other volunteer groups.

Dumpling Festival Celebration!

On the coming 19 June 2010 we will be celebrating Dumpling Festival with the residents of CMH!

The theme of this event will be in the form of a Carnival, coordinated by Alvin.

We will be having four games stores for the residents to move their limbs and mind! What's more? They will be rewarded with ice cream sticks for their participation to play more games or exchange for wonderful prizes!

Snacks will be served during this event with dumplings and more! Of course, to bring up the atmosphere, we will be having a singing session on the stages!

Therefore, we need you, volunteers! To help out this event and make it a memorable one for you and the residents!

Breakfast Service resumes on this Sat!

With the Swine flu outbreak happening around the world, we are all on alert to prevent this virus from entering into Singapore. Noticed that precautionary measures are stricter for certain organisations and well it depends on the nature of the business.

For the health of everyone in CMH including volunteers, our breakfast service was stopped for 2 weeks. Finally and YES, the residents are able to see us once again on this Sat morning! =)

Coming up next will be a mini Dumpling Festival Celebration on 23 May 2009!

Outing to HortPark (21 March 2009)

It has been awhile since we brought the residents to an outing (last movie outing was in Oct'08). Not very often, they have the chance to see the surroundings. Hope that the residents will enjoy the different kinds of outings specially organised for them. =)

This time round, a group of us brought them for a walk @ HortPark, the newest park. The volunteers who helped out were nevertheless our Moral, Swami and SN angels who always lend a helping hand! Through a contact from one of the angels, we also got the help from a group of teachers from Woodgrove Primary School and one thing which I am glad to say was, some even got their family members involved in this meaningful activtity. Their main role is to befriend with the residents, showered them with care and concern. Without this group of people who willingly offered their help, this outing would not be possible. Thanks so much to all! =)

Weather was good, neither too sunny nor heavy rain and the singing by the volunteers, have made the entire outing an enjoyable and relaxing one! =)

Swami angel Joseph is looking into ordering "Orr Kueh" for next week's breakfast. Yummy, we are salivating already. Prepare to cut and serve and put on the sweet sauce and chilli for the 150 plus residents...ding ding ding, breakfast's served!

Setting up a pioneer volunteer group

CMH is currently looking into recruiting volunteers to set up its own saturday volunteer group for (1) saturday breakfast service (2) saturday afternoon befriending activities

There are plans for a recruitment drive come early May at Causeway Point / Woodlands Regional Interchange and for a block to block visit around the home soon after that.

We are calling out for volunteers who do not mind spending a couple of hours on either saturday morning or afternoon to spend time at the home with the residents...to warm their stomachs literally speaking :) and hearts.
